Improving the access to health-care in rural communities is important for:

  • Overall physical, social, and mental health status
  • Disease prevention
  • Detection, diagnosis, and treatment of illness
  • Quality of life
  • Preventable death
  • Life expectancy

Rural residents often encounter barriers to health-care that limit their ability to obtain the care they need. In order for rural residents to have sufficient access, necessary and appropriate health-care services must be available and obtainable in a timely manner. Even when an adequate supply of health-care services exists in the community, there are other factors to consider in terms of health-care access. For instance, to have good health-care access, a rural resident must also have:

  • Financial means to pay for services.
  • Means to reach and use services, such as transportation to services that may be located at a distance.
  • Confidence in their ability to communicate with health-care providers, particularly if the patient is not fluent in English or has poor health literacy
  • Trust that they can use services without compromising privacy
  • The belief that they will receive quality care.

Rural communities rely on local health-care providers for health-care services. The absence of such health-care providers is excessively felt by rural residents, who often have a greater need for accessing health care because of deteriorating health conditions.

Accessing health-care services and support is and has always been one of the critical issues facing people living in rural communities.  Grace-CHAWO enables rural residents to make essential journeys to access health-care where there is no other suitable transport available.

The aim is to provide safe and high-quality services at a point as near to the rural residents as possible!!

“In the pursue of multifaceted strategies to improve the availability, accessibility and affordability of health-care in rural communities, we are inspired by our vision and desire to propel rural livelihoods forward through improved well-being because access to health-care is critical for the society’s overall contentment.” – Grace Nassanga, Founder and CEO, Grace-CHAWO.
